Frequently Asked Questions about AMD

AMD or Intel for servers?
AMD EPYC has more cores (up to 192) and more PCIe lanes than Intel Xeon at the same price. Intel has better single-thread performance and specialised accelerators (AVX-512, QuickAssist). Cloud providers rely heavily on EPYC. For new data centres, EPYC is often the better choice.
AMD or NVIDIA for AI?
NVIDIA dominates through CUDA — almost every AI framework is optimised for it. AMD ROCm works but is less mature. The NVIDIA A100/H100 have no real competition for LLM training. The AMD Instinct MI300X is competitive for inference and for certain HPC workloads.
